The Prodigy on Ice—Yuzuru Hanyu (Part 2)

My thoughts on the Winter Olympics (Part 2)

Hong Kong 🇭🇰 Athlete "World No.1"

After talking about Yuzuru Hanyu's inspiration to me, I want to talk about the definition of an athlete in the world.

When Hong Kong Express Representative @schu1 When Zhu Dingwen took the first step, an accident occurred and he was already quite far behind. His father beside him said, "Why do people in Hong Kong have to fight so far?"
I believe this statement is not surprising to people who don’t like sports. Li Shen’s father also supports me in running, but I don’t know much about the athletes, so I felt a little sad when I heard him say that.

When an athlete wins an award, he or she will be dubbed "the best of the world", and even some people who have never known about the sport will follow the trend and join the team of fans. On the contrary, when you lose, you are often accompanied by criticism and sporadic "come on", or even a casual remark from your father that kills your efforts.

Has anyone ever thought that it is not easy for an athlete to get a ticket to the Olympics? What's more, Hong Kong does not provide many resources for athletes, and the venues are also very limited. Take ice rinks as an example, you can count them on two hands: West Kowloon Centre, Kowloon Bay Megabox, Taikoo Shing, Discovery Bay, Tsuen Wan Promenade (closed).

Just as we saw in this Winter Olympics, strong countries such as the Netherlands, South Korea, and others would build facilities to train their athletes step by step and achieve good results. On the contrary, the fencing hall in the Hong Kong Velodrome will be built only after Hong Kong athletes achieve good results. To put it simply, you will not have resources before you become the best in the world. When you successfully win an award and attract public attention, the government will realize the need. Table tennis is a good example. It won a medal again from the 2004 Olympics to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. It took 17 years and it was also brought about by the table tennis craze that year. But if the emphasis had been on cultivating young talents before the craze, would it be necessary to wait 17 years to win this medal?

It is said that you can cook limited meals with limited rice. Even with limited resources, we can maintain the spirit of fighting again and again after repeated failures. Hong Kong athletes are truly the best in the world. This is not because of the wins and losses in the competitions, but because Hong Kong athletes can still strive for self-improvement under an incomplete structure. This spirit is truly "the best in the world".

So we should support Hong Kong athletes. Regardless of whether they win or lose, as a Hong Konger, we should be proud of their results. I hope that not only in major events, but also in all athletes representing Hong Kong, people can cheer for them in their hearts, because they have devoted more time and effort than anyone else to win glory for Hong Kong.

I want to introduce @yiukitching He was the first to run the Olympic marathon at the 2016 Rio Olympics. I believe that new long-distance runners will soon be able to do the same, and even achieve better results.
@wanchunchun Come on and support your Olympic dream
