Can you be the guiding light for the next gold medalist? 》
Last time, I shared with you the five major areas of development in the sports industry in the form of a lazy package, including: Teaching & Coaching, Science, Health & Fitness, Media & PR, and Marketing. This time, we will discuss in depth the area of "Teaching & Coaching" with you. I believe that you can find the position that suits you.
//Most importantly, thank myself! // Li Jing
In the women's table tennis team competition at the Tokyo Olympics, three Hong Kong-born female players, To Hoi-kem, So Wai-yin and Lee Ho-ching, won a bronze medal for Hong Kong. As their coach, Li Jing expressed her gratitude to the players for their efforts and the support of Hong Kong citizens after the game, and also said some golden words to thank herself. At first everyone was a little surprised by this statement, but if you think about it carefully, it makes sense. Although athletes are capable, coaches also work hard and make no less sacrifices than athletes.
Many successful athletes have an excellent coaching team behind them. Coaching is not just an individual unit, it can be a large team with dedicated people responsible for technical analysis, training arrangements, on-the-spot tactical arrangements, etc. As strong as basketball gods Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant were, they could not win the NBA championship by their own strength alone, but under the coaching of Zen Master Phil Jackson, they immediately achieved twice the result with half the effort and won the NBA championship many times.

Behind every athlete’s success, there is their coach. I believe there is no need to say how important a coach is in an athlete's career. Many people would say "A good student can become a teacher", and many athletes will join the coaching industry after retiring to train their own successors. If you feel that your athletic level is not good enough, there are actually many professional sports teaching courses and qualifications available. You will definitely be able to find a position that suits you among the coaching team. There are many active athletes in Hong Kong who have opened training schools for corresponding sports. As active athletes, they certainly have influence and can attract more participants, but one fist cannot beat four hands. They all need more coaches to help, and this is when everyone is needed!

In addition to being a part of the coaching team, becoming a physical education teacher can actually be of great help to the sports industry. Many schools in Hong Kong do not regard the gymnasium as an important class, but when I think back to my younger self, I would get very excited once I arrived at the gymnasium. It was a little sweetness in my busy academic life. The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong both offer courses for becoming physical education teachers. Of course, sports development must start from an early age. An athlete’s career is short, so time cannot be wasted. You all want to see your students standing on the podium and thanking you in the future. It is our responsibility to educate the next generation!
Although everyone in Hong Kong has felt in the past two years that exercising is such a luxury. Faced with closures, gathering restrictions, mask mandates, etc., exercising suddenly became very difficult, and people working in the sports industry also suffered heavy losses. This may worry many of you who are planning to join the sports world, but the epidemic will eventually end, and the epidemic prevention measures have begun to be relaxed to a limited extent. I hope that the passion for sports in everyone's heart will not be extinguished.
Teaching & Coaching is a very important aspect. The threshold for starting a business or joining this field is relatively easy compared to other fields. If you are interested, you might as well give it a try! But please remember, don’t become a teaching slave!

After sharing with you the areas of “teaching” that can be developed in the sports industry, next time I will share with you the areas of “science”, which you may feel is not popular and feasible in Hong Kong. Few people do this and few people try it, so this is a great opportunity for you!
